Outbreak
In epidemiology, the occurrence of infection with a particular disease in a small, localized group, such as the population of a village. The term is sometimes used more broadly to refer to an epidemic or pandemic.

Epidemic
A disease epidemic occurs when there are more cases of a particular disease then normal.

Pandemic
A pandemic is a worldwide epidemic of a disease. An influenza pandemic may occur when a new influenza virus appears against which the human population has no immunity.

2010-2011 Influenza Season:

In February 2010, the WHO and FDA recommended the three seasonal influenza viruses to be included in the 2010-2011 seasonal influenza vaccine. How a virus becomes a pandemic:

Must be a “New” Virus Transmitted to Humans
Must be Able to Cause Illness in Humans
Must be Able to Pass easily from Human to Human

Know the signs and symptoms of Influenza

(includes Seasonal and H1N1)

Symptoms of influenza come on very sudden and include:

Fever
Chills
Body aches
Sore throat
Non-productive cough
Runny nose
Headache
Fatigue

In H1N1 influenza, vomiting and diarrhea may also occur.
